OUT THE BOX

The highlight of this wonderful weekend was the Spring Day at the University of Maryland at College Park Campus. The campus was truly beautiful and made me think back to my “SCHOOL DAYS” I thought about what it was like to have that freedom of being on your own…..I quickly went back to my memories of the “Student Union” and the “Black Table” where all my friends conversed and hung out. It was truly the meeting place. Of course, I was at the alternative punk rock table, with the white people, the preps, and the blacks…..

My crew (My hommie, her three kids, my one) and I arrived and we had an awesome time. The car ride down was amazing as my girlfriend of like 20years we giggled, chatted, showed love and thought about how we really do know each others business. The time past quickly on I-495 as the subtle voice of her little ma-mi from the back asks “Are we there yet”… We pumped to Lauryn Hill’s “Lost One” hard on the way back…….

When we arrived we met up with my other hommie that lives in the area. The photographer in me made sure we marked the moment with some flics for the scrapping party that one day I will host or get to attend. We embarked on a tour of the events….

We landed in my favorite place anyplace…the Performance Arts center.
For those that know me, I should have truly been on Broadway….We started out with Salsa lessons and I partnered with Ms. Jayla, my friends cute little ma-mi as a partner. My son even participated for awhile. My partner exclaimed “That I was the best partner ever”….. That melted my heart….

Later, we went outdoors for a cool fresh moment of Jazz and it was real nice. The children played and enjoyed the outdoors. My son liaised with two other little boys in his age group as well. Who would have known at the next event the Chinese kid would be his “boy” and stage mate…this truly made me think about how the world and people taint the good things. The innocent free play reminds me that there are still moments when we don’t set boundaries and just want to embrace friendship, fellowship, and love not at the cost of “What color you are”…..

Lastly, the pivotal moment was the theatre production of the group COLOURS. They were truly awesome. Jayla and Najee went on stage and performed like seasoned professionals. The choreography of skits and dance instantly reminded me of why I LOVE the ARTS and reminded me of why I was a Bio, major and a Theatre minor in college.

My message today is to cultivate your mind…& the ARTS definitely help you do just THAT!!

PURPOSE

I think my favorite pastor in the world was so on to something as he says "If the purpose of a thing is not clearly understood abuse is inevitable" A statement so just in the fact that you can apply it to many situations.

If you dont know your Purpose in life you will abuse your gifts that God extends to you.
If you dont know the Purpose of certain Friendships, abuse on your part or another will be inevitable.
If you dont know Your PURPOSE, your life will continue to 360 degrees with the same mistakes, the same blame and ultimately there will be no lessons learned.

If you dont know YOUR PURPOSE, you'll keep fooling with the same circle friends that can't cultivate any WISDOM in your life ...

If you dont know your purpose you will be with the same man years and years hopin wishin and prayin he is who your Flesh thinks GOD HAS For you..

If you dont know the PURPOSE of change you will continue to get the same result everytime. "NOTHING"

If you dont know the PURPOSE of the gift of parenting you will never build character in your children but produce children that Influence your decisions rather than you influencing theirs........

If you dont know the PURPSOSE, day in and day out you will abuse the thing God Gave "TIME" and ULTIMATELY not know if we used that GIFT to FORFILL OUR PURPOSE. or did WE WASTE IT.

Today, lets all reflect on the father if he hasnt shown us whatz our purpose.
Lets affect and infect another to help them reach and see their PURPOSE

And REAL TALK, lets STOP PLAYIN like we have a LOT OF TIME!!!
